Ich, der Neunmalklug : me, the wise guy

Ich habe auf meinem Rechner im Büro ein Hintergrundbild von Anti-Flag. Darauf zusehen ist eine einheitlich graue Weltkarte auf schwarzem Hintergrund und darüber steht in weisser Courier-Schrift: "One people - One struggle". Und da ich meistens lieber auf meinem iBook programmiere, ist das Hintergrundbild vom PC nahezu immer zu sehen.
Jedenfalls kam heute mein Chef und schaute sich das Bild an.
Er: Was heisste denn 'struggle'
[Stille]
Ich: .. also 'people' ist immer Plural
[Stille]
[Stille]
[Stille]
er stand dann noch ne weile da... ich hab weiter gearbeitet.
Irgendwie kam ich mir mächtig komisch vor.

................................................................................................

I'm sorry, but I'm not sure if you will get the punch line...
it's because translate a story about diffculties in translations is pretty difficult ;-)

The wallpaper on my PC in the office shows a picture from Anti-Flag. The picture has a pitchblack background with a monochrom earthmap and writing in white letters which reads "One people - One struggle". As I prefer to programm on my iBook, the picture is most of the time visible. Anyway, today my boss came over an looked at the picture.
Boss: What does 'struggle' mean?
Me: Something like fate.
[he is musing]
Me: respectively fight
Boss: hey, if you show it you got to know what it means
Me: Sure, I know what it means, but it's a bit hard for me to explain!
[he is musing]
Boss: Ah, that's it. 'One man - one fate'
Me: More like 'One human race - one fate'. There is no singular of people. //Sorry, I know that human race is not quite correct, but as I said before, it's difficult. Suggestions are welcome :)
[silence]
Me: .... well, people is always plural
[silence]
[silence]
[silence]
he stands there vor quite a while... I continued working.
Somehow I felt very strange and uncomfortable.
